Sports academies carry out reforestation day in front of Ciudad Belén and Villa de Santiago

With the motto “Let's Adopt a Tree”, more than 150 young people who belong to the sports academies of the Managua Mayor's Office, carried out a reforestation day on 3.7 kilometers of the Larreynaga Track in front of Ciudad Belén, Villa de Santiago and Monte Nebo, with the objectives of mitigating the effects of climate change in the short term and promoting in new generations an environmental awareness that is capable of caring for and protecting Mother Earth.

During the day, the Secretary of the Municipal Council, Jennifer Porras López, shared with the young athletes the commitment of the municipality to train and promote in the new generations an aptitude that allows them not only to be part of the problem, but also part of the solution that facilitates adaptation to climate change.

"Today from the sports area we are accompanying this effort to plant and adopt to follow up more than 300 fruit plants, today we see how the youth, men, women, including the coaches of the different academies, have been prepared so that this activity can reach the hearts of families,” said Porras.

On this first day of reforestation, rose mango, star apple, medlar, mamón chino and mamón criollo, breadfruit, almond, sweet orange, currant, nancite, sapote and peach plants were planted. This is the second environmental activity organized by the Sports Directorate, with the aim of training athletes who are also defenders of the environment, each protagonist will sponsor a plant until they are big and strong to survive.

Eveling Vega, who is part of the team that coordinates the sports academies, explained that this is the second activity carried out with young people, to contribute to the protection of natural resources.

“Bless God because we live in Nicaragua, we are contributing our grain of sand as the Sports Directorate, to contribute to the care of our Mother Earth, as citizens of Managua, as Nicaraguans who love our place, we are going to contribute by planting, caring for and adopting a little plant,” said Vega.
