Hundreds of athletes participated in the First Taekwondo Championship

With the participation of 953 athletes from the 15 academies of the 7 districts of Managua, the Taekwondo Championship began, within the framework of the fourth edition of the Managua 2024 Youth Games, on the morning of this Saturday, May 18, at the IND Combat Gym.

This tournament was held this Saturday and Sunday, in the combat and poomsae modalities, with all the action in the youth and adult categories, continuing on Sunday with the participation of children and cadets, shared Mayor Reyna Rueda Alvarado.

“A fairly intense day, it is the first taekwondo tournament, of four that we are going to have this year, the last one we are going to close in December, this platform is an opportunity to identify the potential that the boys have in this sporting discipline, here 15 academies are participating,” highlighted the mayor of the capital.

Taekwondo in Nicaragua is a sports discipline that has grown significantly in recent years, as a result of the support provided by the Sandinista Government to the sport. Currently, this martial art has more than 70 academies nationwide and have given good results in competitions. international.

"Medals, high performance are important, but more so, knowing that all these children are not in other places, today Saturday or Sunday, they are here doing sports, I always say a society that does sports is a better society, encouraging it is excellent,” said the outstanding athlete Elián Ortega.
