Poetry dedicated to women on the eve of March 8

With a riot of poetry and song, the Managua Mayor's Office paid tribute to Nicaraguan women, on the eve of International Women's Day. The event was held simultaneously at the Otto de la Rocha House of Culture and Creativity and at the Lolita Soriano museum, on the afternoon of this Thursday, March 7.

When sharing with the protagonists, the Secretary of the Municipal Council, Jennifer Porras López, highlighted that more than a celebration, it is a commemoration of the achievements and conquests of those women, who in difficult times fought to demand the rights of women and as This cause has been a priority of the Alianza Unida Nicaragua Triunfa, in recent years.

“International Women's Day is a transcendental day, here in Nicaragua from our Government of Reconciliation, Commander Daniel and Compañera Rosario have always been at the forefront of this demand for rights towards women,” Porras reiterated.

For their part, the poets Eunice Lacayo and Nuby Wong shared poems of their authorship, the artists through their pens highlighted the legacy of women like Chepita Toledo, who was one of the first pioneers of suffragism and feminism in Nicaragua, founder of different feminist organizations and known as a tireless fighter for the rights of Nicaraguan women and Lolita Soriano who dedicated her life to teaching and promoting art and culture.

“We as poets have an important and fundamental role, since through our words we must assert our rights, our identity, as a woman,” said poet Eunice Lacayo.

For their part, music, singing and theater students, through artistic expression, paid tribute to the achievements of women, in all areas, in recent years.

“From this cultural space that we have today, we are honoring the capable woman, the artist woman, the entrepreneurial woman, the mother of the family,” said Alexia Torrente, music and piano teacher at the House of Culture. and Creativity Otto de la Rocha.
