Managua, the eternal Bride of Xolotlán, celebrates the 172nd anniversary of being elevated to Capital

With a cultural evening, full of music, dance and art, the municipal authorities, councilors, artists and the Association of the Elderly, celebrated the 172nd anniversary of the naming of Leal Villa de Santiago as Capital of the Republic of Nicaragua. The event took place on the night of February 5 in the Plaza de la Revolución, in front of the Santiago de Managua Cathedral and the National Palace of Culture.

During the event, Mayor Reyna Rueda highlighted the attitude of the capital's inhabitants to reinvent themselves every day to resurface and progress, transforming adversities into new opportunities.

"Today we are celebrating in a big way, our Managua, first it was elevated to a city and then to capital in 1852, we have a Master Plan for Urban Development, where little by little we are recovering what is the historic center, thanks to the strategy of Our Good Government, Commander Daniel and our Vice President, Compañera Rosario, have created conditions to recover these spaces,” stated the capital city councilor.

For 172 years, La Leal Villa de Santiago reinvented itself day by day, until it became Metropolitan Managua, which offers a place to live for 23.5 percent of the Nicaraguan population, close to 2 million people, as reflected in the latest national census. .

Today, the eternal Bride of Xolotlán, in addition to having most of its neighborhoods interconnected, thanks to the Streets for the People Program, is the center of the country's economic, industrial and tourist activity. In the first hundred years the capital's residents lived from fishing, to planting, currently Managua has developed commerce and tourism, highlighted Vice Mayor Enrique Armas Rosales.

“The statistics that Anasha Campbell announced today are that Managua was the tourist epicenter of 2023 in Nicaragua, the most visited city and that had not happened before, now in Managua we have more hotels, more hostels, more centers of fun and tourists come from Mexico, Costa Rica, thanks to the security that exists in our country,” said Armas.

During the last 17 years, the Sandinista Government has rebuilt the historic center of the capital, which has allowed the formation of a new circuit and tourist destination, such as Puerto Salvador Allende, Paseo Xolotlán, Isla del Amor and the Luis sports complex. Alfonso Velásquez Flores.

Without a doubt, the geographical position of Managua located between the cities of León and Granada, as well as the privilege of having a port on Lake Xolotlán, in the days when it was transported by carriage, made it an ideal place to be officially selected. as the Capital of the nation, on February 5, 1852.
