Rubén Darío neighborhood celebrates the 157th anniversary of the birth of the Father of Modernism

With a recreational and cultural afternoon, aimed at children and young people who live in the Rubén Darío neighborhood, the Managua Mayor's Office commemorated the 157th anniversary of the birth of the Prince of Castilian Letters, this Sunday, January 21.

Among the activities were drawing contests, piñatas, indoor soccer competitions, music and singing, accompanied by the protagonists who live in the neighborhood, while the municipal authorities visited the families to share the printed paintings in honor of the famous poet.

"As part of the Dariana activities, we are holding an educational day with the families of this historic neighborhood, we will go house to house to deliver some paintings of our poet and share with the families the reasons that keep the legacy of Darío, who was defender of the sovereignty of our country,” said the Secretary of the Managua Council, Jennifer Porras López.

Darío not only revolutionized the writing of prose and poetry, with his pen he also demonstrated that one can fight for freedom, for sovereignty and equal rights, said Clemente Guido, Director of Historical Heritage of the municipality.

“Rubén Darío is valid today, because the concept of defense of national sovereignty is in force, Rubén not only wrote romantic poetry, he also wrote prose, essays and journalistic articles in defense of Nicaragua, against the invasion of the United States in 1912 , this publication was made in Buenos Aires Argentina and is one of the most violent literary protests made in defense of Nicaragua,” said Guido.

To honor the memory and legacy of Darío, the municipality will carry out a series of activities, including floral offerings, meetings and reflections with the literary circle of the capital, a poetry recital with the elderly and, as is tradition, there will also be held children's declamation contests.
