For the fourth consecutive year Chess Academy opens its doors

Opening the sporting year, the municipality opened its doors for the fourth consecutive year to the Chess Academy, to receive the future promises of this sport, on the afternoon of this Friday, January 19.

This academy currently has more than 100 active students and an average attendance of between 15 and 20 students daily, reported Mayor Reyna Rueda Alvarado.

“Very grateful to the parents, for the trust they have placed in this work team, young people with extraordinary experience who with a lot of patience, affection and love transmit their knowledge of that discipline, so important for the development of children, here we are serving from 2 to 6 in the afternoon, from Monday to Friday, but also on Saturdays from 10 to 12 noon,” indicated the capital city councilor.

Throughout the year 2023, the academy managed to place itself on the winners' podium repeatedly, in different events, such as the Central American Team Championship where they managed to win 1 gold medal, 3 silver medals and 2 bronze medals, the Central American and Caribbean Under 20 Championship in Honduras, in which an International Master standard and the title of Best Athlete of the Year 2023 in the Chess discipline was achieved.

Nahún Espinoza, coordinator of this academy, stated that this year they have expectations of increasing the number of athletes, "we hope to have more tournaments, so that they can participate, a monthly tournament where only members of our academy can participate."
