Managua remembers the victims of the 1972 earthquake

In commemoration of the 51st anniversary of the earthquake of December 23, 1972, the Mayor's Office of the Citizen Power of Managua held a tribute to honor the memory of the victims of this tragedy that mourned the hearts of Nicaraguans and the entire world.

During the tribute, a cantata was performed and floral offerings were placed at the monument erected to the victims of the catastrophe and at the common grave where the remains of thousands of capital residents who lost their lives and who were not identified rest.

Mayor Reyna Rueda Alvarado recalled this episode of pain and sadness for the capital city and expressed that in this tragedy around 10 thousand people died, who lived at that time in a city built without urban safety regulations and without emergency plans.

Likewise, he highlighted that Managua is now a city with a government that cares about the safety of families and that exercises are continually carried out to be prepared for disasters with a system of care, prevention and mitigation.
