Monument to the Great National Hero, General of Free Men and Women Augusto C. Sandino and Blanca Estela Araúz Pineda

In tribute to the General of Free Men and Women, Augusto C. Sandino and his wife Blanca Estela Araúz Pineda, the Good Government inaugurated a new sculpture in recognition of the legacy of both national heroes, at the Mirador Sandino, located in Loma de Tiscapa, which has become a benchmark for tourism in the capital city.

At the same time, rehabilitation works were carried out for the healthy recreation of families. The opening ceremony took place on the night of this Friday, December 15, and was chaired by the municipal authorities, colleague Camila Ortega Murillo, general coordinator of the National Commission for Creative Economy, Yahoska Calderón, great-niece of General Augusto C. Sandino, historian Rafael Casanova and special guests.

“Today we inaugurate this effort made by our Good Government of Commander Daniel and our Vice President, Compañera Rosario, we feel proud of this monument and above all the rehabilitation of this entire historic center, Loma de Tiscapa National Historical Park, visited by thousands of brothers Nicaraguans and delegations that have visited us,” said Mayor Reyna Rueda Alvarado.

This rehabilitation consisted of changing the railings, placing benches, renewing the ornamentation, maintenance works on the children's games, on the lighting system and painting in general.

The sculpture of the heroes is 3.10 meters high and 2.60 meters wide, with an internal steel structure and reinforced concrete at its base, in bronze color, inspired by a photograph of General Sandino and Blanca Araúz, taken days after their marriage ( on May 18, 1927), when both were sitting in the mountains of San Rafael del Norte.
