Fifteenth edition of the altar competition in honor of the Immaculate Conception of Mary

The registration period for the “XV Municipal Contest of altars in honor of the Immaculate Conception of Mary”, was opened by the municipal authorities, in the company of the members of the qualifying jury and a large number of traditionalists of the contest, on the afternoon of Friday, November 24.

The call was made from the Plaza of Peace, Life and Hope, in front of the altar of the Virgin, between songs and the delivery of the traditional “cap”, where Mayor Reyna Rueda Alvarado swore an oath to the 14 jurors that on the next 7 December, they will tour all the districts of the capital, but not before thanking the capital's families for their trust in the contests organized by the municipality.

“Managua is dressed in lights, joy, with a lot of tradition, but above all with a lot of devotion to the Blessed Mother, we Nicaraguans are a Marian people and we appreciate the trust and support during these beautiful 15 years that the contest has had,” expressed the mayor of the capital.

Clemente Guido, Director of Historical Heritage of the commune, reported that the first three places will be awarded for each of the 7 Districts, in total the winners will be 21 altars, in accordance with the parameters established in the contest rules.

“This year the first place winners will receive 11 thousand córdobas, the second place winners 10 thousand and the third place 9 thousand córdobas. The altars, in addition to having originality and creativity in their designs, must have a religious concept, which is fundamental and should not be have any element that is not from our culture,” Guido explained.

Registration will be open until December 6, those interested in participating can register at the Municipal Historical Heritage Directorate, located in the Zumen Civic Center, building N.
