Successful participation in the second chess tournament

The Mayor's Office of the Citizen Power of Managua, held this Friday, August 25 at the Parque Las Madres Auditorium, the second chess tournament, a sport that allows you to think and develop mental skills faster and is part of the second edition of the Youth Games 2023.

The tournament had the participation of 80 athletes from the different clubs of the American University, National Autonomous University of Nicaragua, Academies of the Municipality and the general public, as reported by Noel González, Sports Director of the capital commune.

“We have more than 20 sports disciplines as the Managua 2023 Youth Games, this is part of the promotion of sports carried out by the Managua Mayor's Office and we hope that the winners of this event can continue to the next stage, we do around five events in the year to bring out the absolute champions of all the events we previously held in the month of November and December,” said González.

José Espinoza Solano, coordinator of this sporting discipline, announced that the teams are divided into a children's section with children under 12 years of age and an open section, in which athletes over 13 years of age participated.

Silvio Martín, a participant in the Managua Mayor's academy, expressed that he has been practicing this sport since he was 6 years old, “I always watched my dad play chess and little by little I learned, this is a very good sport for memory, "Learning is very good for concentration, chess develops the cognitive part of the brain, in chess you are always thinking about each move and the decision you are going to make."

In the open tournament, the first 3 places were awarded with trophies in the under 18, under 16 and under 14 categories and the best female with medals, while, in the children's section, the first, second and third place were awarded with medals in the sub 12, sub 10 and sub 8 categories.
