Managua, headquarters of the FIBA Centrobasket U17 Women

From August 5 to 9, the capital Managua was the venue for the 2023 Centrobasket U-17 Women's Championship, held by FIBA in the Americas at the Alexis Argüello Sports Center.

The tournament had the participation of the host Nicaragua, as well as Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala and powers in this sport such as Mexico, Panama, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic.

The eight national teams were divided into two groups of four, in which they faced each other against each other (three games per team). The top two teams from each group advanced to the Semifinals.

Nicaragua, achieved a historic participation and managed to be in fifth position after defeating El Salvador that was in sixth place. Guatemala was seventh and Costa Rica, last place.

Panama and the Dominican Republic fought for third place, where the islanders managed to keep the bronze medal.

Mexico and Puerto Rico staged a heart-stopping duel, where the land of Roberto Clemente managed to win the long-awaited gold medal.

The top three teams from the 2023 FIBA Centrobasket U17 Championship for Women will qualify for the FIBA U18 Americas Championship for Women in 2024.
