The Second Wheelchair Basketball Tournament gets off to a strong start

In its third edition, the Managua 2023 Youth Games held the second wheelchair basketball tournament on Saturday, July 29, where 45 athletes participated, who met at the Luis Alfonso Velásquez Flores Sports Complex.

The competition was held in the 3 vs 3 modality, with this sporting event the Good Government, in addition to promoting free access to sports and recreation, guarantees the restitution of rights to people with disabilities.

Guillermo Pérez Ocón, coordinator of the Sports Development Project for People with Disabilities, reported that the teams from Estelí and another from Managua will join this tournament in two months.

“This tournament is the second wheelchair basketball championship, which is sponsored by the Sports Directorate of the Managua Mayor's Office, in what refers to the payment of arbitration and awards; Other people like the Nicaraguan Paralympic Committee also support us,” reported Perez.

There are 8 teams that the commune has organized in the Luis Alfonso Velásquez Flores park and every Saturday from 2:00 in the afternoon they meet to compete or practice and in the year two basketball tournaments are held for athletes with disabilities motorboat.

"Each team has a girl who has the right to play at least two quarters of each game, which are held every Saturday," Pérez added.

The athlete Carlos López explained that, in Nicaragua, people who use wheelchairs also want to play a sport, which is why these spacious facilities are important to them, because it allows them to play.

"People with disabilities enjoy these spaces and the inclusion offered by the Government of Commander Daniel, so that we can practice and develop a sports discipline, thank God we have the support of the Good Government, the Paralympic Committee and the Mayor's Office of Managua "Lopez said.
