Commemorating the fourteenth anniversary of the passage to immortality of the Hero of Solidarity and People's Champion, Alexis Argüello, the Mayor's Office of the Citizen Power of Managua held a solemn session on the afternoon of this June 30 for the delivery of the Municipal Order Andrés Alexis Argüello Bohórquez, to six prominent athletes.
The winners were the first Nicaraguan baseball manager Angélica Ramírez, the best basketball player of the 20th century, Paúl Argüello, Dr. Carlos Reyes Sarmiento, a great baseball narrator and sports journalist with more than 40 years of experience, Don Miguel "Chocorrón" Buitrago, an outstanding soccer player of all time in the national sport, the best basketball player and engineer Alberta Smith and Claudia Mójica, a great striker in women's soccer, reported the Vice Mayor of Managua, Enrique Armas Rosales.
"Words fail me, it is an honor that they make me one of the greatest that this country has ever had, Alexis, to whom in a way the experiences lived in a time gave us so many glories and today receiving the Alexis Argüello Order for me is something that I never thought I deserved to be grateful for such a high distinction," said sportscaster Carlos Reyes Sarmiento.
Angélica Isabel Ramírez, who also works for the municipality as a baseball coach, expressed her pride in the award, "Super mega happy, happy, blessed that our Managua Mayor's Office recognizes me for my great work, to receive the Alexis Argüello order with great honor , for me it is for all my history ”.
The Alexis Argüello Municipal Order was approved to give recognition to national or foreign personalities, who have stood out and raised the name of Nicaragua in different sports disciplines.
