On the Xolotlán promenade, on the afternoon of this Sunday, February 26, municipal authorities inaugurated the tournament of the new sports discipline Baseball 5, which in Nicaragua is popularly known as Handball, but which now comes with 5 players and its own regulations.
Baseball 5 is an urban version of the classic baseball and softball games, a fast, young and dynamic sports discipline that follows the same principles and fundamentals of its main disciplines, governed by the World Baseball and Softball Confederation (WBSC).
The activity took place between the replica of Roosevelt Avenue and the Aquatic Park, and was chaired by Vice Mayor Enrique Armas Rosales and the ambassadors of the republics of Cuba and Venezuela, who welcomed the players of this new sport.
Armas expressed that, "the new Baseball 5 in our country, in fact, we are starting the activities and the colleagues of the Sports Directorate of the Mayor's Office of Managua, in combination with the brothers of the embassies of Venezuela and Cuba in Nicaragua, are They are starting a day, which will last every Saturday on Paseo Xolotlán”.
This sport is played in an area of 18 square meters, with a base in each corner and a distance of 13 meters between each of the bases, for 5 innings and is played with 5 people per team, the 5 players of the defensive team. they will be in the field when the batter hits the ball and distributed at the positions of first base, second base, third base, shortstop and outfielder.
