With great joy, faith and devotion, this December 22, the Mayor's Office of the Citizen Power of Managua, through the Directorate of Historical Heritage, awarded the winners of the "Altars Contest 2022", in its fourteenth edition in honor of the Immaculate Conception of Mary, as part of the promotion and strengthening of traditions and Nicaraguan cultural identity.
In this call, 200 families participated with their altars, coming from the neighborhoods and regions of the 7 districts of Managua.
The 21 best altars were awarded, 3 for each district, reported Vice Mayor Enrique Armas Rosales, "today we have made the annual award ceremony, with great joy, with great emotion to the winners of the Most Beautiful Altars Contest, we have awarded prizes of 10,000 córdobas for first place, 9,000 for second, and 8,000 for third place.”
The winning altars were evaluated for their creativity, originality, the incorporation of biblical messages, the use of traditional elements such as sweets, crafts, flowers of the time, as well as allusive to the context of the reality of Nicaragua. It is now 14 consecutive years that the Managua Mayor's Office has held this contest, to recognize art, creativity, love and dedication to religious devotion, shared the Director of Historical Heritage, Clemente Guido.
"I think it is very excellent, it encourages us more to be religiosity and also to encourage people to have Marian fervor, it is a celebration of the Virgin," said the first place winner, Paula García, from the Omar Torrijos neighborhood in the District v.
Among the neighborhoods with winning families were Isaías Gómez and 14 de Junio in District I, Los Madroños, La Reforma and Juan Emilio Menocal in District II, San Judas, El Pilar and Loma Linda in District III, El Paraisito, Larreynaga and Venezuela neighborhood in District IV, Omar Torrijos, Rubenia and Colonia Centroamérica in District V, Américas II and Colonia Unidad de Propósitos of District VI and Villa Bulgaria, Manuel Fernández and Anexo 1ro de Mayo in District VII.
