In an atmosphere full of color, marimbas and art, the Gastronomic Festival "Flavors and Christmas Family Traditions" was held in the popular San Judas market (Roger Deshon), where 13 protagonists from the 8 markets of the capital participated, being the winners the wholesale market, Iván Montenegro and Israel Lewites.
Within the qualifying jury, was Mayor Reyna Rueda Alvarado, who explained that the Good Government started this tradition 14 years ago, with the purpose of rescuing and preserving the traditional gastronomy of the December holidays, as well as uniting families in the holidays of end of the year.
"What better way to start the Christmas season with this gastronomic festival at the national level, organized by the different institutions, here we have 13 protagonists from the 8 markets, the winner will represent us at the departmental festival, next December 17 at the Plaza Independencia in the city of Granada," said Rueda.
The winner of the first place is Mrs. Ana María Pérez from the Mayoreo market, the second place was won by the protagonist Lorena Baltodano Parrales from the Iván Montenegro market, both with a delicious stuffed loin and Mrs. Leonarda del Carmen Miranda Reyes, from the Israel Lewites market is the winner third place with the traditional stuffed chicken. The prize for first place was 5,000 córdobas, 3,000 for second and 2,000 for third place.
To choose the winners, the qualifying jury took into account the flavor, color and texture of the dishes, the preparation of the recipe, the presentation of the dish with traditional elements of the time and the decoration of the stand with the Christmas theme.
Ana María Pérez has worked in the wholesale market for 30 years selling food and from the age of 12 she learned the process of cooking a stuffed loin.
"I feel honored that my brothers from the market always look for me when this contest is held, to represent them, in other years I have won second place, third place, but thank God this year I won first place," said Pérez.
