Youth Games holds Third Chess Tournament

In the main hall of Las Madres park, the Managua 2022 Youth Games held the third chess tournament in which more than 200 players participated, last Friday, October 28. The winners of this tournament qualified for the chess final to be held at the end of November and from where the champion and sub-champion of this year will come out.

The chess players competed in the Blitz modality, 5 minute finish per player in 7 rounds, in the categories: children, youth and open, each of the categories will reward the champions and sub-champions.

Vice Mayor Enrique Armas Rosales explained that one of the priorities of the Good Municipal Government has been to rescue and promote this sports discipline, which in recent years has brought great triumphs to the country, thanks to the work and effort of new chess players, such as Naun Espinoza, who is a two-time national champion.

"To organize it, we did it in coordination with the Presidency of the Republic, the Ministry of Education and the Chess Federation, to promote chess throughout the nation, this tournament is a tribute to the great Nicaraguan chess player Edgar Escobar, who went to another level of life last year,” said Armas.

He also added that most of the athletes who love this discipline, many of them are excellent prospects, "so we are sure that future chess players who will represent our country in international events will emerge from our academy."

Naun Espinoza recommends that the future generation study and practice chess to develop skills in studies.

"Chess is very good as a sport and as a pedagogical tool, because it develops memory capacity, dexterity, when making decisions and the good thing about chess is that everyone can practice it, even if you don't have the resources, if you are Well, you can become a national team," said Espinoza.
