This Friday, September 30, authorities from the Managua Mayor's Office commemorated the 37th anniversary of the death of Mr. Salomón Ibarra Mayorga, author of the lyrics of the Nicaraguan National Anthem, with a floral offering and a musical concert in the San Pedro Cemetery.
Clemente Guido, Director of Historical Heritage, recalled that the author of Chinandegan origin died in Tegucigalpa, Honduras on October 2, and was repatriated together with his wife to receive the deserved tribute in his homeland.
Ibarra in 1918 won the contest organized by the government of the time to choose the new lyrics of the Nicaraguan anthem.
Guido highlighted the importance of the lyrics of the anthem, written by Salomón Ibarra who through the poem protests against North American intervention and against imperialism.
