On the afternoon of this Monday, August 08, from the Japan-Nicaragua Park, the Mayor of Managua, Reyna Rueda Alvarado, led the flag and handed out clothing to the Nicaragua B National Children's Baseball Team, represented by the children of the September 14 Academy in Managua, who will travel this coming August 11 to Pennsylvania, United States, to participate in the Williamsport Little League World Series, to be held from August 17 to 28.
This team that will represent Nicaragua was the winner in the Williamsport Latin American Children's Baseball Championship, held for the first time in Nicaragua last July, who managed to beat the Venezuelan team and is made up of 14 players between 11 and 12 years old, as well like 3 technical bodies.
For more than 50 years, Nicaragua has not been able to qualify in this category, which is why it is a memorable date for all Nicaraguan baseball lovers, said Mayor Rueda, "so many years we had not classified in this league, for us it is a triumph, is the sowing that we have been doing in sport, we are reaping these fruits thanks to the strengthening that our Good Government has given to sport in all its disciplines, from the investment in sports infrastructure that has been made at the national level , which has allowed us to hold important events”.
Nicaragua will be competing in the first phase against the team from Curacao, on August 17 and if it wins it will face the team from Panama and thus will advance according to the competition system, the municipal authorities reported.
Marlon Chávez, the team's coach, thanked God and the Mayor's Office of Managua for the support provided and expressed that the players are more than prepared to give their best, “the children are in high spirits, they are happy because they have really worked hard , they have given everything on the field, I feel excited, because they are enthusiastic about winning”.
At the same time, the municipal authorities welcomed the gold medal-winning U-15 women's football team.
