Managua 2022 Youth Games hold First Athletics Competition

More than 180 athletes participated in the First Athletics Championship, as part of the Managua 2022 Youth Games, which was held by the Sports Directorate of the Capital District, on the morning of this Saturday, August 6, on the synthetic track of the Nicaraguan Institute of Sports (IND).

The competitors of this festival of speed come from Districts I, II and III and participated in the categories U11 (9 – 10 years old), U13 (11 – 12 years old), U15 (13 – 14 years old), U18 (15 – 16 – 17 years old), U20 (18 -19 years old) over 20 years old and the federated category for high performance athletes.

In this fair, schools, academies and all athletes who want to be part of these Youth Games will face each other.

Auxiliadora Lacayo, Coordinator of the Athletics Academy of the Commune, stated that from this first call, the best sprinters will go to the final that will take place in December, "the next call would be to districts IV and V, on December 10 September, the same with the speed festival that covers from 60, 80, 100, 150, 200 and 400 meters, which is pure speed”, he detailed.

During the sporting event, Lacayo thanked the Good Government for the support it provides to the different disciplines, improving sports facilities so that young people stay away from risks.

For his part, Glen Oniel Mc'Coy Marín, from the Academy of the Commune, shared that athletics is his passion, he has been practicing it for a little over a year and he feels very happy because in a short time, he managed to be a national champion in the U20 category and the Major category, “my experience has been quite progressive, in a few months I obtained a fairly high achievement, what many do in years, I did it in months and I thank God for having the potential”.

Currently the Athletics Academy of the Municipality, has a registration of 42 athletes between children, youth and adults. People who wish to be part of this academy can go to the IND athletics track, from Monday to Friday from 3:00 in the afternoon. Trainings are held from Monday to Friday from 7:00 to 9:00 in the morning and from 3:00 to 5:00 in the afternoon.
