On the afternoon of this first of July, the date on which the thirteenth anniversary of the passage to immortality of the three-time world champion Alexis Argüello Bohórquez is commemorated, the Mayor's Office of the Citizen Power of Managua, during a solemn session of the Honorable Capital Council, delivered the Municipal Order Andrés Alexis Argüello Bohórquez to three outstanding Nicaraguan athletes who gave glory to Nicaragua.
During the delivery ceremony, the Vice Mayor of Managua, Enrique Armas Rosales, stated that this decoration brings together the great figures of Nicaraguan sports, "we are in the majestic Alexis Argüello Sports Center, sharing this tribute to our three-time World Champion and Mayor, today we present three athletes the Municipal Order to sports excellence”.
The distinction was awarded to Herman Mullins, the great coastal basketball player of the 1980s and 1990s who was part of the National Team, to the outstanding volleyball player of the Nicaraguan National Team in the 1980s, Mayra Blandino, and was also given to Rafael "El Capi” Obando, legendary second baseman of the Nicaraguan National Team in the Amateur Baseball World Cups.
“For any athlete it is a great honor, a merit to be recognized for sporting excellence Alexis Argüello, it is our maximum expression of all time and the most beautiful thing is that they give it to you in life, that you can be present and that you enjoy it with your people ”, expressed basketball player Herman Mullins.
Mayra Blandino congratulated the Municipal Government and the Good Government for creating this distinction that highlights the great qualities of the Knight of the Ring and thanked the recognition, "the virtues that Alexis had such as humility, discipline, tenacity, the glory he gave to our country is An example".
For his part, El Capi said that receiving the Alexis Argüello Order is very special, because Flaco Explosivo was a great athlete.
This Municipal Order was approved to give recognition to national or foreign personalities, who have stood out in the different sports disciplines.
