With a solemn act and the presentation of dances to the rhythm of the mambo, the 70th anniversary of the birth of three-time World Boxing Champion Alexis Argüello and National Athlete's Day were celebrated on April 19 at Plaza de las Victorias.
This tribute was attended by authorities of the Municipality, relatives of the Knight of the Ring and members of the Alexis Argüello Sports Movement, who placed flower offerings at the foot of the monument erected in his memory.
“Happy birthday to heaven, from all of us Nicaraguans who love our Alexis, our Mayor, our Champion, today that we are also celebrating National Athlete's Day, we remember him for his legacy that he has left in sports, for his love and solidarity that he had in his heart that transcended our borders, an inheritance that left us in service to others”, shared the Mayor of Managua, Reyna Rueda Alvarado.
He also stressed that thanks to the initiative of former mayor Alexis Argüello and the unconditional support of the Good Government, different recreation and leisure spaces have been built, as well as sports facilities, which became a reality so that the young people of the different neighborhoods of the capital do more sports.
Karla Rizo, widow of Flaco Explosivo recalled the successes of the boxer and the human being that characterized him, "it is very exciting to be present, thank you for inviting us to commemorate the 70th anniversary of Alexis's birth, God bless him, a human being extraordinary, good companion, good friend, good father, thanking everyone for always keeping him in mind”.
