Capital District prepares for the arrival of winter with the cleaning of riverbeds and micro-dams

The Mayor's Office of the Citizen Power of Managua began a month ago the first stage of cleaning the city's drainage system, made up of more than 80 kilometers of lined channels, 23 micro-dams, 157 kilometers of gutters, 25 kilometers of unlined channels and more than 17 thousand inlets and wells for visits, this for the winter period, as announced by the Mayor Reyna Rueda Alvarado, during a tour of the channel December 31 of District VII.

“It is the first stage that we carry out in the cleaning of our entire drainage system and this is one of the components of the Winter Plan that we have as the Mayor’s Office of Managua, we are 21 percent complete with the 80 kilometers of lined channels, we have planned clean 65 kilometers in this first stage, in the case of unlined riverbeds we plan to attend to 25 kilometers, "said the mayor of the capital.

Rueda explained that in the case of the 23 micro-dams, it is expected to collect some 72 thousand tons of cubic meters in sediment and garbage. The cleaning plan is 21 percent complete, 900 tons of garbage have been evacuated so far.

“In this case, we have made progress on the old road to Santo Domingo, as well as on Américas Tres, Américas Uno and on the 31 Diciembre riverbed, which is 5 kilometers long, this is hard work,” said Rueda.

The official called on the population not to throw garbage in the riverbeds, or in the streets, or gutters, to avoid environmental damage and obstruction of the drainage of the capital city.
