With a variety of dishes from Nicaraguan gastronomy, this Friday, February 18, in the food hall of the Roberto Huembes market, the Mayor's Office of Managua in conjunction with the Nicaraguan Institute of Tourism (INTUR) and the Ministry of Family Economy, Community, Cooperative and Associative (MEFCCA) held the call for the municipal contest "Flavors of Lent", in its thirteenth edition.
All merchants, workers in the food sector of the 8 municipal markets and families in the capital who so wish may participate in this contest.
The Managua authorities explained that to choose the national winner of this gastronomic contest, municipal, departmental and national festivals will be held in Santo Tomás Chontales on April 9.
This culinary contest is already part of the Nicaraguan traditions at this time of summer, for 13 years the Local Mayors, INTUR and MEFCCA have worked hand in hand to rescue the culture of the people.
The competition of the capital as a municipality, will be next Saturday, February 25 and the first three places will be awarded, the winner will participate in the departmental festival.
Reyna Rueda Alvarado, Mayor of Managua, confirmed the work that is already being done to guarantee the success of gastronomic festivals, "all local mayors are preparing to organize local contests that will reward the best flavors, the best cooks' spoons traditional from all regions of the country, which in a domestic and simple way preserve the recipes of our tradition”.
Among the requirements that participants must meet is: that the dishes prepared are traditional for the Lenten season, they must also have a color, flavor and texture according to the dish.
