Youth Games Managua 2021 holds the final athletics championship

A little more than 250 athletes participated in the final athletics championship that was held through the Managua 2021 Youth Games, this Sunday, December 5, at the athletics track of the Nicaraguan Sports Institute (IND).

The finalists come from all districts, in this third competition the runners were from the categories U9, U12, U13, U16, U18, U20 and Senior for runners over 20 years old.

The speed competitions were made in 60, 100, 150, 200 and 400 meters flat.

The Vice Mayor of Managua, Enrique Armas Rosales confirmed that the Youth Games strengthened the sport in all its disciplines.

“We want to congratulate you for having made the decision to have participated in the 2021 Youth Games and we want to invite you to continue practicing your favorite sport, the youth games are a hotbed from which the new promises of the sport will be born and that is the orientation of Commander Daniel, permanently support and promote the sport, you are the generational change and many of you tomorrow will be in the national teams”, said Armas.

In this final championship the first three places were chosen by categories, the work that was carried out since April in this discipline was very successful, thanks to the coordination between the Municipality and the National Athletics Federation.

“The objective of this final is to bring out the best athletes, the best in the different categories of the neighborhoods. In this period we have been working with the neighborhoods where we want to detect our new values”, said Xiomara Larios, President of the Athletics Federation.

The young people and children participated very enthusiastically in each of the sports events, Valeria Silva, a runner since she was 8 years old, assures that next year she will also participate in the Youth Games.

“I like this sport, which is very beautiful. If someone is interested, they can be integrated here in the Sports Institute, in the city hall academies, instead of being in a corner smoking, they can practice their sport now that there is great support from the government. Here they can practice all sports and they don't waste their time loitering”, said the athlete.
