With great joy, faith and devotion, this November 29, the Mayor's Office of the Citizen Power of Managua, through the Directorate of Culture and Historical Heritage, held the call for the "Altars Contest 2021", in its thirteenth edition in honor of the Immaculate Conception of Mary.
The launch was made by the Mayor of Managua, Reyna Rueda Alvarado, in the presentation of the altar to the Virgin Mary, prepared by the Municipality and located on Avenida de Bolívar a Chávez, where she asked the Blessed Mother for her intercession for all Nicaraguans.
“This year with the participation, with much affection, dedication, with great devotion, we are a people of faith and we ask you to always intercede for us, especially in the difficult times we have been through, but here we are celebrating, 13 years that we have come Accompanying the families that register in this contest, which we visit at each of the altars, we thank the special guests who have been participating, here we are the municipal governments accompanying this effort of the National Government chaired by Commander Daniel and our Vice President, the compañera Rosario”, said Mayor Rueda.
The selection of the best altar will be held next Tuesday, December 7, La Gritería Day. Three winners will be chosen per district (first, second and third place), there will be 21 finalists and the prizes are 10,000 cordobas for first place, 8,000 cordobas for second place, and 6,000 cordobas for third place. In total, 168,000 cordobas will be awarded in cash to the winners and there will be special mentions.
The qualifying jury is made up of the Mayor of Managua, the Director of Historical Heritage, Clemente Guido, chaired by a total of 14 jurors, who will tour the 7 districts in pairs, to evaluate the participating altars.
This contest has all the traditional parameters that have been taken into account in previous editions, as reported by fellow Guido, "First of all, the originality of the altar is taken into account (strawberry tree, natural flowers of the time, palm, etc. ), they are asked to bring a biblical message, something that transmits peace, the harmony of the people of Nicaragua and that they are made with love.”
He also shared that to date 150 contestants who are already traditionalists have registered. Registration closes on December 6 and can be directed to the offices of Historical Heritage, located in the Zumen Civic Center, building N, ground floor.
The capital officials announced that during the years 2017 and 2018 300 altars were registered, in 2019 and 2020 200 altars participated and this year they hope the number will increase, to give the cry to the Mother of Who causes so much joy? Conception of Mary
