Youth Games Managua 2021 holds second athletics competition

A little more than 150 athletes participated in the second athletics competition, held by the Managua 2021 Youth Games. The races were held at the IND athletics track, this Sunday, October 31.

The competitors come from districts IV, V, VI and VII and the finalists of this round will face the winners of the first round who are from districts I, II and III, in a third competition that will take place in the first days of December, as reported by the Sports Director of the Municipality, Noel González.

"In this second competition we have 150 kids from 4 districts, those who win will compete with the winners of the first round, the competitions will be in 100, 200 and 400 meters," said González.

The participants competed in the categories U12, U13, U14, U15, U16, U17, U18 and U20, in the 100, 200 and 400 meter dash.

In this second round, adolescents, young people, children of 8 and 10 years old participated, who competed in short races.

Xiomara Larios, President of the Athletics Federation, explained that these competitions are a success due to the coordinated work done with the Municipality and the sports academies.

"These competitions allow us to discover the new promises of sport, it allows us to train athletes in an integral way from a young age, the creation of the academies that the Mayor's Office has is something invaluable, because it captures the kids in the neighborhoods, trains them, trains them and it keeps them away from the gangs,” added Larios.
