The Brumas de Jinotega were crowned champions of the VI National Basketball Tournament “Carlos Ulloa” In Memoriam after defeating the Lions of the Managua Mayor's Office last Sunday, June 20 on the Otto Casco field with a score of 51 - 49.
Las Brumas, were proclaimed champions in the fourth challenge of the final (3-1) in a series that was agreed to a maximum of five games, but that in the end did not extend beyond, thanks to the great work shown by the Northerners in the last two parties.
In the fourth match the Brumas were commanded by the Cacho brothers. Dayton and Dalton were the key pieces of Ángel Mallona's team, adding more than 50 percent of the series points for his team.
Dalton, added his second consecutive double-double, scoring 10 points and taking 11 rebounds, while his brother, Dayton put 8 points in the basket with 4 rebounds and 2 assists, followed by Rafael Mendoza who sneaked in as the top scorer of the challenge with fifteen.
For the Lions, the best on the court was Róger Muñoz, who got his third double-double of the series by scoring 15 points and 12 rebounds.
This is the first title of the Jinotegans in this new stage of Ulloa after those achieved by Leones de Managua (3), Indígenas de Matagalpa (1) and Costa Caribe (1).
"We are very happy with the work done, we dedicate this championship to all the fans that supported us during the tournament," said the MVP of the final, Dayton Cacho.
The Cacho brothers, Dayton and Dalton, were the offensive engine of the brand-new Ulloa 2021 champion, thanks to them the Jinotegans obtained their first title in the new era of this tournament.
Although the fight for MVP was even, Dayton did the necessary numbers to be proclaimed the best in this final. Dayton scored 56 points out of 235 for the Mists team, or 24 percent of his team's total points.
The MVP, in the first challenge added 11 points, in the second he added 15 units, in the third 19 and in the last match he added another 11.
In addition, he captured 26 rebounds and distributed 15 assists with 5 triples made in the four challenges.
His best performance was in the second challenge of the series, on the Otto Casco court where he achieved a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds.
