Municipality pays tribute to the victims of the earthquake of March 31, 1931

90 years after the earthquake of March 31, the authorities of the Mayor's Office of the Citizen Power held this Holy Wednesday, an act in commemoration of the victims of this natural tragedy, in the Glorieta del Parque Central, adjacent to the Plaza de la Revolución.

This event that honors the memory of the fatal victims of this devastating earthquake, began with a minute of silence, then the municipal orchestra performed the most representative songs of the Capital: Managua Linda Managua, Mora Limpia, Barrio de Pescadores, Alforja Campesina, among other

The Mayor of Managua, Reyna Rueda Alvarado, presided over this tribute in the company of the historian Gloria Mora, the Vice Mayor Enrique Armas Rosales, the Secretary of the Managua Council, Jennifer Porras López, the Director of Historical Heritage, Clemente Guido and members of the honorable Council Capital.

During the event, the historian Gloria Mora made a historical review of this natural tragedy that accounted for some 1,500 fatalities, more than 2,500 injured and the destruction of the city that left more than 45,000 victims in misfortune and chaos.

Mayor Reyna Rueda highlighted that Managua continues to be a vulnerable city, "but now we have a prepared system and we should be proud of the progress we have made," said the Mayor.

He added that the managuas have a prevention system, “articulated with the different institutions, ready for any eventuality. At the Central American level, we are the only country that has more than 14 earthquake detection stations. When there is an eventuality in the capital, it takes less than half a minute to find out where it happened and at what magnitude, thanks to the significant investments in technological development that we have ”.
