With the aim of creating awareness to preserve our natural resources, the Mayor's Office of the Citizen Power of Managua through the Directorate of the Environment carried out on the morning of this Friday, February 5, the first cleaning day in the Natural Reserve of Laguna de Tiscapa, in commemoration of World Wetlands Day.
The ecological squad of the Nicaraguan Army participated in this activity, as well as the residents of the Hialeah neighborhood of stage IV and the workers of Tiscapa, who began the cleaning day at 7:00 am.
“This morning we are starting the cleaning days in the Laguna de Tiscapa Nature Reserve, a total of nine, which are being promoted by the Mayor of Managua through the Directorate of the Environment, with the aim of creating awareness of the importance of maintaining and preserving this jewel of nature that we have ”, commented colleague Camilo Fonseca Sandino, Director of the Environment of the capital city.
The official also said that “this year we want to make a change to the awareness of the population, normally it is done with the ecological squad of the Nicaraguan Army, the Guardabarranco Environmental Movement, Universities and Institutions, but this 2021 we are integrating the inhabitants, such as those from the Hialeah neighborhood of stage IV that are part of this critical zone and that are an affluent of pollution from the lagoon where we have been working with them ”.
It should be noted that the 17 workers who work in the Tiscapa Lagoon normally collect 140 cubic meters of garbage per week, on this day around 50 to 60 cubic meters of garbage were collected ”.
