The Mayor of Managua and the National Karate Federation organized the First National Selective Karate Championship, this sporting event was held at the Alexis Argüello Sports Center with the participation of more than 226 athletes from 26 schools from all departments of Nicaragua.
The championship was dedicated to the memory of Emerson Velázquez, who in life was the president of the Federation and Eugenio Rocha, chief referee.
The competitions will last two days, Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 of November and its objective is to select the athletes that will make up the Nicaraguan National Team for the next international events.
The Vice Mayor of Managua, comrade Enrique Armas Rosales, indicated that it is an important national competition, because "the most outstanding karate men and women of this great event will be the shortlisted for the Central American Games in Santa Tecla, El Salvador" in the 2021.
Marlon Leyton, President of the Federation, mentioned that athletes in the ages of 11, 13, 17 and under 21 participate in this championship.
One of the athletes is Gabriela Castro, who started practicing this discipline 6 years ago and seeks to be selected.
He pointed out that exercising this sport has helped him to have a lot of discipline in his academic training, highlighting that he is now in the fourth year of high school, "It has helped me to be a responsible girl ”, she asserted.
Castro invited young people to practice this sport to acquire discipline and character "I think they should risk a little more, it is something 'cool', quite beautiful and they should participate, cheer up without fear," he said.
Present at the opening ceremony were deputy Edwin Castro, honorary president of the federation, who received recognition for his contribution to the promotion of this sport and from the president of the El Salvador Karate Federation Oswald Mata.
Likewise, an acknowledgment was given to the wife of Mr. Emerson Velásquez (RIP).
The competitors are from León, Chinandega, Masaya, Granada, Estelí and Managua, the winners of this championship will be shortlisted for the National Team that will represent us in the Central American Games of 2022 in San Salvador and the U-21 in Cali, Colombia.
