The "Contest of Altars 2019", in honor of the Immaculate Conception of Mary that took place last Saturday, December 7, Shouting Day, had a participation of 310 contestants.
To choose the 21 winners, a qualifying jury made up of 14 members toured the 7 districts of the capital in pairs, starting at 6 in the afternoon simultaneously.
Three finalists (first place, second place and third place) were chosen for each of the districts.
The first place winners received 9 thousand córdobas in cash, those of the second place 7 thousand córdobas and the third place 5 thousand córdobas, in total 150 thousand córdobas will be delivered in cash to the 21 winners.
The altars contest organized by the Municipality for 11 years in honor of the Virgin Mary, became a tradition for the participants of this contest.
The Vice Mayor of Managua, Enrique Armas announced the winners of the contest, “We have an example worthy of praise in the Las Jagüitas region in District V, Mrs. Bertha Genara Vallecillo, 99 years old, has 80 years of celebrating La Purísima and participates from 2012 to today, has won first place ”.
Likewise, he affirmed that in District III the young Lennon René Torres, 26 years old, being male, won first place for the first time in 2012, and since 2016-2017 and 2019 first place, he has won consecutively.
In District I, Rosa Aura Hernández, Fátima Páramo and César Augusto Centeno, have always won first and second place throughout these 11 years.
"In all the districts it is the same, we have winners of the first three places who are repeat offenders, this shows that this contest is already part of our Marian traditions in the Capital," added the Vice Mayor of Managua.
