In an extraordinary session of the Honorable Managua Council, the Municipal Order of Sports Excellence Alexis Argüello was awarded to Cuban athletes Ana Fidelia Quirot Moret and Javier Sotomayor Sanabria, world and Olympic champions in athletics and high jump respectively.
The athletes were decorated with a medal that was imposed by the colleague Reyna Rueda Alvarado, who expressed that this distinction is given as just recognition, to the achievements obtained by Ana Fidelia Quirot and Javier Sotomayor in international competitions.
Ana Fidelia Quirot Maret, World and Olympic Athletics Champion in the 400 and 800 meters, is a member of the Central American and Caribbean Athletics Hall of Fame, for her achievements in gold and silver medals in world competitions; for this reason it is also known in the sports world, as "The Caribbean Storm" or the "Queen of the Track".
Similarly, Javier Sotomayor Sanabria, world champion and Olympic medalist of Salto Alto, also known as El Tigre, El Salta Nubes or Príncipe Limonar, is a member of the Hall of Fame and considered the best in history in jumping. tall, for having achieved an Olympic title, 2 world championships, 4 indoor and 3 Pan American titles; in addition to having been selected 4 times the best athlete in Cuba and 5 in Latin America.
