Environmental Knowledge League comes to an end

The VI Inter-municipal Environmental Knowledge League came to an end, this year 56 schools participated, with Managua in first place, San Rafael in second and El Crucero in third place.

The Environmental Knowledge League was carried out with the support of the Ministry of Education (MINED), in coordination with the Mayor's Office of Managua through the Directorate of Environmental Management, INAFOR, MARENA, LA UPOLI.

This contest has been held since 2012, in order to provide the primary school student population with the opportunity to be multipliers of basic environmental knowledge, to have a change of attitude in favor of the environment.

Vice Mayor Enrique Armas explained that the project has been a success, because in these six years more than 400 schools have participated.

“In these six years, we have achieved the participation of 466 schools, the call for the contest begins in April, participants are given two months (May and June) to prepare on environmental issues such as climate change, measures of reforestation, preservation and conservation of fauna and flora ”, stated Armas.

The Vice Mayor explained that the contest from last year is promoting that each school adopt a mascot; This pet is an endangered species and the school makes a costume that represents their pet with recyclable material.

Students must investigate everything about it, its life cycle, how it nests, in what season, with the intention that students learn everything that needs to be done to preserve and save this species.

The winning mascot was the spider monkey, represented by the Mil Colores school center in Ciudad Sandino.
