This weekend, the first construction work began on the new Las Piedrecitas Overpass, which will reduce waiting times for users from Ciudad Sandino who use the Las Piedrecitas intercept to enter the capital on a daily basis.

In a tour of the area, the Secretary General of the Commune, Fidel Moreno, explained that the project contemplates the construction of two uneven steps in a period of one year.

“This is one of the most important and ambitious road projects that has been built in Managua and today, thanks to God and the efforts of Compañero Presidente and Compañera Rosario, we are beginning to make it a reality, first we are going to build the Las Piedrecitas Slope Crossing which will be ready in May of the next year and immediately afterwards we start the 7 South Overpass, which will be ready in October ”.

Two turning platforms or crescent bridges will be ready that will turn one on top of the other, allowing vehicular traffic permanently ”.

The project to expand the road network at both intersections includes an intervention area of 90,000 thousand square meters, this is equivalent to an area of 13 blocks.

"The first overpass is Las Piedrecitas, it will have an eight-lane track, four pedestrian bridges and two vehicular bridges," Moreno explained.

The structure of the bridges will have a little more than 2,000 tons of steel and more than 7,000 cubic meters of concrete and in both the circulation will be double lane.

“Here we will have two turning platforms or bridges, the first bridge that turns towards the León Highway will be 565 meters long and 13 meters high; the second bridge that will join the Carretera Sur with the Carretera Vieja a León will have a height of 7.50 meters ”.
