Cardinal Leopoldo Brenes presided over the Holy Mass in honor of Santo Domingo de Guzmán before the descent of his throne in the Church of Las Sierritas de Managua, preparing to make his pilgrimage to the capital where he will remain for ten days accompanied by thousands of parishioners and devotees.
Cardinal Brenes stated that popular piety is a treasure, a wealth that the Church has, so much so that the representatives of Christ on earth, Pope Saint John Paul II, declared it that way, in the same way that Pope Benedict when he visited Aparecida, and today Pope Francis, tells us that we have to protect and promote popular piety, because it is not only a folkloric issue, but it is a spiritual force in which the faithful have this humble, simple and profound encounter with our Lord. Jesus Christ through Santo Domingo.
The Cardinal also called not to build walls, but to build bridges of unity, giving us hands, united to make a pilgrimage and proclaim mercy with faith, love and hope. May all the thousands of parishioners march in order and with religiosity, with faith in Christ accompanying the interceptor Santo Domingo de Guzmán who was a holy and humble man.
The Mayordoma of the Patron Saint Festivities, the Mayor of the capital, comrade Daysi Torres, danced the image of Santo Domingo, at the same time manifesting that the message of Cardinal Brenes is guiding and full of love for God, so that the thousands of parishioners and promising pilgrims with faith, with love and devotion.
At the same time, he affirmed that the Mayor's Office of Managua, as in previous years, will put its workers who will go behind the pilgrimage of Santo Domingo, to clean all the sectors through which the pilgrimage passes, it will also be done in the traditional equestrian parade, to that the capital's streets and the road from Las Sierritas to Managua are completely clean after the event.
He also assured that he will participate today in the other activities programmed in honor of Santo Domingo, among them the delivery of the Minguito Boat, to the widow and children of the traditionalist Lisímaco Chávez, later he will participate in the sailing of the boat in San Judas, the same as in the candle of the Arch in the Hook of the Ways and the other traditions of the town in honor of Santo Domingo de Guzmán.
